Relationship between UNESCO Global Geoparks and Biosphere Reserves and World Heritage Sites

UNESCO Global Geoparks, together with two other programmes under UNESCO, namely Biosphere Reserves and World Heritage Sites, have formed an organic whole that promotes heritage, which not only protects the diversity of world culture, biology, and geology but also boosts sustainable economic development. Biosphere Reserves pay more attention to the coordinated management of biological and cultural diversity. World Heritage Sites aim to promote the protection of natural and cultural ruins with outstanding universal values. UNESCO Global Geoparks raise people's awareness of the importance of conserving geodiversity by granting international recognition to key geoheritage and promoting active participation of local communities.
