Why is the UNESCO Global Geopark established?
The UNESCO Global Geopark
is the link between man and nature. Various kinds of geoheritage in it witness
the miraculous creation of nature for hundreds of millions of years, record
abundant physical information about the Earth's history, and are of great
significance to the study of the Earth's evolution, the origin of life, changes
in the geographical environment, climate change, mineral resources exploration,
and biodiversity. The UNESCO Global Geopark tells the Earth's story from the
perspectives of rocks, landscapes, and ongoing geological processes and builds
a link between geological heritage and natural and cultural heritage, clearly
demonstrating that geodiversity is fundamental not only to all ecosystems but
also to human coexistence with nature.
