What is the GGN?
Founded in 2004, the GGN
has developed with the support of UNESCO. It is a not-for-profit international
organization composed of UNESCO Global Geoparks and professionals. Its purposes
are to promote the Global Geoparks Programme, facilitate experience exchanges,
quality management, joint initiatives, project formulation, and capacity
building, so as to improve the product quality and activity value of UNESCO
Global Geoparks. UNESCO Global Geoparks are obliged to join the GGN and
actively participate in the biennial GGN Conference. The GGN promotes regional
exchanges and cooperation and contributes to its goals through a series of
regional networks such as the Asia Pacific Geoparks Network (APGN), European
Geoparks Network (EGN), Latin America and Caribbean Geoparks Network (GeoLAC),
and African UNESCO Global Geoparks Network (AUGGN).
